Romolo Ludovico Lanza was born in Taranto, the city of two seas. He began his piano studies at a young age under the guidance of his father, Cosimo Damiano Lanza, and subsequently continued his bachelor's studies with Alberto Miodini, Mariangela Vacatello, and Pierpaolo Maurizzi at the "A. Boito" Conservatory in Parma, where he graduated with top honors.
He completed his master's studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main, supported by a scholarship, with Oliver Kern, and then in the class of Christopher Park at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. He has had the opportunity to refine his skills with renowned artists such as Marianna Shirinyan, Andrea Lucchesini, Trio di Parma, Filippo Gamba, Alexander Ullman, Riccardo Risaliti, Roberto Cappello, and Giampaolo Nuti.
His repertoire ranges across different stylistic epochs, with a particular fondness for Johannes Brahms and a strong interest in the contemporary scene. In addition, his interest in all art forms influences his constant work with the repertoire, which has often led him to make connections with literature, visual art, and dance.
His solo and chamber music career has involved him in concerts and projects throughout Europe. He has performed at important festivals such as Festival Pontino in Sermoneta, Mediterraneo Chamber Music Festival, Naarden International Piano Festival, Magnus Piano Week in Kaunas, Pordenone Piano Festival, Lecce Piano City, and Piano Lab in Martina Franca, while also collaborating with institutions such as the Italian Cultural Institute of Oslo, the Embassy of Spain in Norway, and Comites Oslo. In addition to receiving awards in international competitions (such as PIOP in Taranto, the Stravinsky Competition in Brindisi, the City of Palmanova Competition, and the ICM in Paris), he has had the opportunity to perform in venues such as Harpa in Reykjavík, Bij Andreas in Naarden, Lindeman Hall in Oslo, the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt, Kulturhus Banken in Lillehammer, Sala Verdi in Parma, Accademia di Pinerolo, Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Auditorium del Carmine in Parma, and Accademia di Romania in Rome.
In 2024, he concluded a concert tour in southern Italy in collaboration with the Norwegian Academy of Music and with the support of Tom Wilhelmsen's Foundation. His activity as an organizer prompted him to devise, between 2019 and 2021, a concert season within the Conservatory of Parma, "Les Concerts du Cloître"; from 2024, the masterclass series "Vie Nuove" (a project in collaboration with the Accademia Musicale Mediterranea and the "International Music Competition for Youth – Dinu Lipatti" in Rome); and, from 2025, the Mediterraneo Chamber Music Festival.
He worked for TUP (Talent Program) at the Norwegian Academy of Music, teaching young students from all over the country. He is currently a piano professor at Oslo International Piano Studio.
