Den Nationale Scene: Offstage – Scenes from a Neighborhood
When
Kode’s Art Satellite originates from Kode’s Education Department and is a long-term part of our work to make the museum more open, relevant, and inclusive. The Art Satellite aims to reflect the rhythm of the neighborhood, take shape through dialogue with the local community, and create space for new stories—making art more accessible in everyday life.
From the project space at Sletten Senter, we invite the public to join workshops, conversations, music, and artistic processes across ages, backgrounds, and experiences. Here, you can explore different printmaking techniques, listen to music, meet artists, and take part in creating.
The Art Satellite is located on the first floor of Sletten Senter, in a space next to the pharmacy. You’ll recognize it by the windows filled with colors, drawings, and activity.
Opening hours: Will be updated here as soon as they are available.
A Performance Emerging from Sletten
What happens when a theater moves into a neighborhood and listens?
During 2025, Den Nationale Scene has collaborated with KODE and the Art Satellite to develop a performance rooted in Sletten—its people, its rhythms and stories, and all the aspects that normally don’t appear on a stage.
Conversations, Memories, and Creative Encounters
It all began in February, when we opened the doors of the Art Satellite and invited the community in: for coffee, conversation, memories, and ideas.
What do you remember from growing up here? What do you miss? What do you wish for your neighborhood?
Since then, artists, young people, residents, children, seniors, and local actors have helped shape the performance—through workshops in dance, storytelling, music, visuals, and sound.
A Different Kind of Performance
As we approach the end of November, all of this takes shape: as small scenes and surprises around Sletten Senter and the neighborhood. You might hear a familiar voice, see a story you contributed to, or experience your neighborhood through new eyes.
This is a performance that is not staged on a traditional theater stage, but right among us—in shops, communal areas, the Art Satellite, and perhaps on an unexpected corner. You can walk through, pause, observe, or participate.
What is Offstage?
Offstage is Den Nationale Scene’s initiative to create theater outside conventional stages—in collaboration with the people who live where it happens. At Sletten, it has become “Scenes from a Neighborhood”, where the theater emerges in dialogue with those who know the place best.
The project is a collaboration between Den Nationale Scene, KODE / Art Satellite, Bergen Borgerscene, Forandringshuset V13, and local residents. Supported by Sparebankstiftelsen SR-Bank and the Kaare Berg Foundation.
