An Artistic Look at Landscape and Time: Roots & Rot

When

Kode’s Art Satellite stems from Kode’s Education Department and is a long-term part of our work to make the museum more open, relevant, and inclusive. The Art Satellite aims to reflect the pulse of the neighborhood, take shape through dialogue with the local community, and create space for new stories—making art more accessible in everyday life.

From the project space at Sletten Senter, we invite the public to join workshops, conversations, music, and artistic processes across ages, backgrounds, and experiences. Here, you can explore various printmaking techniques, listen to music, meet artists, and take part in creating.

The Art Satellite is located on the first floor of Sletten Senter, in a space next to the pharmacy. You’ll recognize it by its windows filled with colors, drawings, and activity.

An ArtisticLook at Landscape and Time: Roots & Rot

In the project"future memories", Frauke Materlik invites the public to explore the landscape between the buildings at Slettebakken. Through walks, conversations, sketches, and workshops, a story is created about how the place has been, is – and can become.

The project links past, present, and future, and raises questions such as: What does it mean to belong to a place? How do we perceive our surroundings? And how can we shape them together?

Exploration, Model-Making, and Open Studio

Materlik plans curious and investigative expeditions in the local area – using analog tools such as sketchbooks and cameras. These experiences are processed at Kunstsatellitten, functioning as both a lab and workshop.

Here, ideas, observations, dreams, and suggestions for Slettebakken take form in images, models, texts, and installations. The ongoing process will eventually resemble a "wunder kammer."

About the Artist

Frauke Materlik is an artist, gardener, and landscape architect. She often works site-specifically and uses art to explore the relationship between people and landscape. Her practice combines public art, performance, and installation.

Materlik is a member of Performance Art Bergen and has extensive experience with participatory projects in both Norway and internationally.
