Museums collect and preserve, research and communicate. Objects and artworks from the collection are therefore often kept in storage, out of public view. In the series Out of Storage, we change that. A curator at Kode selects items from storage for one evening and presents a lecture based on them.

Early in 2026, Kode acquired a very special object for its collection. The small teapot was made in Norway, at a factory in Østfold that was only in operation for twelve years in the mid-18th century. At a time when tea was a luxury commodity, such teapots were also intended for a wealthy clientele. A hundred years later, the factory had been forgotten. And the story of the teapot was to remain unknown for another 150 years.

In this lecture, Senior Curator Peder Valle presents the fascinating story behind the teapot and showcases this remarkable piece from the Herrebøe faience factory.
